At this sprawling AI computing park in north China's Zhangjiakou City, more than 200,000 servers have been deployed to support AI model training and other compute-intensive tasks. Already, the park's hourly energy consumption tops one million kilowatt-hours, and that figure is set to grow further when planned expansions come online. The massive power demand at this and other data centers is being met by the city's vast renewable energy resources, with developable wind capacity alone exceeding 40 million kilowatts. Lyu Zhiyong, general manager, Huailai branch, Beijing Hoyinn Technologies Co., LTD: "In Zhangjiakou, power generated by wind and photovoltaic power projects will be delivered to our industrial park, cutting as much carbon as 1.2 billion trees could absorb. " It's a similar story nationwide. According to the National Energy Administration, computing centers across China consumed some 170 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity last year, accounting for 1.6 percent of the national total. To keep up with the growing power needs, renewable energy is becoming an increasingly vital part of the equation. In the first quarter of this year alone, China's renewable energy power generation reached 882.9 billion kilowatt-hours, making up some 37 percent of overall electricity output.
